It is time to get knocked over and momentum-ed into a frenzy. “Getcha Sum” is THE New Orleans bounce track of the last few years—a joyful, relentless, and kind of slippery song. The bassline is a physical force: buildings collapse, boulders tumble down hills, forceful yet speedy. Coiled around the bass is a watery, hypnotic melody, the drift of hips to match the stomp of feet. Atop all of this, Hasizzle and Anjelika Jelly Joseph trade lines, playing off each other, constantly escalating. They found this magic space where the lyrics are precise but feel unrehearsed. Every “oh na na na” or “what you know? what you know?” is in the exact right spot, but delivered with a glee as if the inspiration happened in that split second. It really is a tumble down a hill, an avalanche of trilled Ls and octave jumps, I listen to this record six, seven times in a row and just get more and more psyched.
